Do you think that there is a lot of hostility towards professors and academia by the modern right?

I hear a lot from posters on this site that:
1. Professors are losers (usually they spell it “loosers”) who couldn’t hold a job without tenure.
2. Professors are all overpaid Marxists who want to indoctrinate the next generation (they must be doing a terrible job as those students generally go on to seek the highest paying job in order to secure a consumerist way of life for them and their children).
3. Those who can’t do teach! This is rather absurd. Some people love to work in the private sector of business and others like to transmit information. Are you telling me that someone who teaches physics can’t do physics? Is your mathematics’ professor at Cal Tech there because he is incompetent? What else do you suggest that your French literature professor do? Open a French literature corporation and become its CEO?

Yes, there are incompetent people in education, but it takes a lot of work to get a doctorate (examinations, theses, getting admitted into graduate programs, etc.), and there are people with far-left viewpoints, but in my experience the majority of professors stick to the subject they are teaching —-I don’t remember my geology professor taking time out of the lecture to tell us why we should join a Maoist organization. Is all this just an excuse to justify a hatred of learning or any environment where viewpoints other than their own flourish? Seriously, I hear so much hostility towards education by the modern adherents of the right. What do they have to say about the numerous conservative universities that we have in this country that are often affiliated with religious sects: http://www.college-scholarships.com/christian_colleges.htm add to those the service academies and several other technical colleges.
So why, after having finished two BAs (one in English literature and another in Spanish), a minor (French), a master’s degree in education and now a master’s degree in Spanish literature, have I only come across a tiny fraction of professors with an overt political agenda at the two state universities I have attended? How many of these denunciations of “Marxist professors” are coming from first-hand experience in the lecture halls of various universities over a number of years?
Even if most academics are hostile towards the right, academics are a minority in this country as they are in all nations, but right wingers are not a small segment of our population.
