Sell at Ebay? Set up own website and link with affiliate programs?

I am planning on starting an online business and am wondering which is the best option in terms of generating more income, which should also be the easiest to start and operate at little expense:

Should I build my own website, sell gift items, get products from dropshippers? Or maybe link my website to some affiliate programs related to gift items?

Or is it wise to just sell some stuff on Ebay; I am just not comfy about the fact that they deduct a percentage from every sale, then pay pal also deduct some fees.

So which is which – lower start up cost, lower monthly expense, higher income generator, easier to start and operate (i am not a tech savvy person at all)…

Any idea of total cost if I choose any of the above?
